Annual adult and community education conference

1 April 2008

Annual meeting for members working in adult and community education

Diary date

The next annual adult and community education conference is Saturday 9 March. The venue will be UCU Head Office, Carlow Street, London, NW1 7LH.

This meeting is for branch delegates from UCU branches working in adult and community education and employed in local authorities or the voluntary sector. The National Meeting will be held hybrid  from 11:00 - 16:00.

This will be an opportunity for members in the sector to discuss what is happening locally as well as feed into some national ACE initiatives.

We will be discussing pay and workloads and hope to be launching our new UCU ACE video. We have also invited Sue Pember, Policy Director for Holex to discuss what we should be demanding for ACE from a new government and having a look at how you can influence your local politicians to support ACE.

General

Access requirements

If members have any specific access requirements, please provide us with full details on the relevant section of the registration form to ensure that we can make suitable arrangements to accommodate members' requirements. Alternatively please contact Sue Bajwa.

Observers

If you are unable to get a nomination through your branch as a delegate, you can apply to attend the meeting as an observer. Observers can play a full part in the meeting except they are not able to vote on any motions. If you wish to attend as an observer please specify on the registration form where asked.

Expenses

Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be paid to cover costs necessarily incurred in attending the Conference, including delegates' travel from work or home addresses within the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. These expenses will be met centrally by UCU. An expenses claim will be made available to delegates on the day. A light lunch will be provided at the venue.  Delegates should keep supporting receipts to submit when claiming travel expenses.

Members are encouraged to book their travel tickets as far in advance as possible to obtain the best possible price.

Accommodation

The conference will start at 11:00 (registration form 10:30) and finish at 16:00.  Delegates are expected, where possible, to travel and to and from the conference on the same day.  If this is not possible delegates will be asked to give their reasons on the registration form, and they will contacted soon after they register

Conference papers

All relevant papers will be emailed to delegates approximately a couple days prior to the conference. For those attending online the Zoom link will be emailed separately the day before the event.
