Support for striking workers now into their fourth week on the picket line

24 June 2014

A national day of action has been organised tomorrow by UCU in support of striking staff at Lambeth College who are now into their fourth week on the picket line.

Members of UCU working at colleges and universities across the country will hold events and send messages of support to their Lambeth colleagues.

There will be an online 'Wall of Support' at and a live report of Wednesday's day of action will be featured on Twitter at: #IsupportLambethUCU

Lambeth College staff began their campaign of indefinite strike action on Tuesday 3 June.

UCU general secretary Sally Hunt, said: 'No educator enjoys taking strike action and indefinite action is a rare occurrence indeed. This day of action is an important opportunity for our members around the country to show they support their colleagues at Lambeth and I have no doubt our members will respond magnificently.'

In the UCU strike ballot, a massive 89% of members who voted backed the call for industrial action, on a very high turnout of 72%. Staff had already backed indefinite strike action in a previous ballot.
