Strike day 7 March1 March 2006 AUT closed down campuses across the UK on the 7 March, now indefinite of action short of a strike has started. Lecturers, researchers and academic related staff have sent a clear message to vice-chancellors that they are prepared to take industrial action on university campuses throughout the UK. Views of some of the picket lines can be seen below. The northern most picket line was in Orkney which is a branch of Heriot-Watt, whose main campus is also featured below as is the most northerly on the mainland, Robert Gordon University. Our newest branch managed to gather enough members to picket outside the stunning Glasgow School of Art, and finally one of our oldest branches at Edinburgh University. There are also two images of the speakers at the Edinburgh rally with student leaders speaking in support of our action along with the AUT president and Colin Fox MSP. There may have been a split stage but there was an unified message. You can help by getting your MSPs to support a motion on pay, see link on right. In Scotland rallies took place across the country at lunchtime on the 7 March.
