How much does it cost to be a UCU member?

UCU membership can cost as little as £2.23 per month depending on your earnings.

The subscription rates applicable from 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2010 are as set out below.

Note: The Northern Ireland rate automatically excludes the 1% political fund contribution; these members can opt-in to the fund which pays for the UCU's political work, but not any party support. Members outside Northern Ireland can opt-out of this fund on request.

Local subscriptions

Some local associations and branches levy an additional local rate to offer extra local services.  (.html) file type icon The appropriate monthly local subscription will be added to the national subscription (.html) [36kb]

Retired/attached members

The rate for 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2010 for retired and attached members is £2.23 per month (£2.21 excluding the political fund).

Note for former AUT and NATFHE members

With regard to subscriptions, NATFHE and AUT previously had different structures. This meant there was a period of phased harmonisation so that, on 1 September 2008, UCU subscriptions could be based on five earnings bands with common subscriptions for both AUT and NATFHE former members.
