FE action 2011

As the unremitting attacks on education and staff continue, UCU members voted in early 2011 to take industrial action in defence of pensions, jobs and the value of pay.


Pensions

30 November pension strike

UCU members in FE institutions took one day strike action on 30 November 2011 over changes to their TPS and NITPS pension schemes. This action took place alongside HE colleagues and many other unions whose members have also voted to take strike action over changes to their pension schemes.

Two previous days of strike action the attack on TPS were held on 24 March and 30 June, the first day of which coincided with the second, UK-wide, day of strike action over changes to higher education USS pensions:

Information : Information Industrial action ballots

  • Members in English, Welsh and Northern Irish colleges were balloted over the threat to the Teachers' Pension Scheme, together with colleagues in Adult and Community Education working in local authorities - 76% voted to take strike action (turnout 28%)
    • 76% voted to take action
  • Members in Northern Ireland colleges were balloted over changes to the Northern Ireland Teachers' Pension Scheme.
