Protests at Robert Gordon University Court in union recognition row

20 June 2011

Members of UCU at Robert Gordon University (RGU) will be protesting against the university's decision to derecognise both the UCU and Unite trade unions on Thursday (23 June) at 12 noon.

Union members will lobby members of the university's key decision-making board (the court) as they arrive for the midday meeting in the Faculty of Health & Social Care Building on the Garthdee Campus*.

The union believes governance procedures were ignored when the university derecognised the unions back in March, immediately prior to the appointment of new principal, Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski.

Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski has been appointed chair of a university governance review announced in the Scottish Parliament by Mike Russell, cabinet secretary for education, last Thursday (17 June).

UCU has questioned his ability to be involved in any governance review when his own university stands accused of circumnavigating its own structures to derecognise the trade unions. More on that story can be found in the media release
