UCU signs agreement to represent staff at New York University's London campus

21 June 2012

UCU today announced that it has signed a recognition agreement with New York University (NYU) to represent staff at the university's London campus.

The union said it was delighted that an agreement had been reached and paid tribute to staff at the institution who petitioned for the union to be recognised.

UCU regional official, Barry Jones, said: 'This is a significant and very positive development for staff at the site, and also for the organisation. We have been encouraged by the spirit in which negotiations and discussions in reaching this agreement took place, and with the constructive work which has taken place with management to date.

'While it is very tempting to think that all of the hard work is now over, the signing of this agreement is just the start of a longer-term process of creating a strong union base at the site.

'Once again, thanks to all of you who signed the petition that was such a critical part of the push for unionisation at NYUL, and we are now looking forward to helping the staff at the site get organised for whatever future challenges might await.'
