Research conference on sexual orientation and gender identity issues and LGBTQI lives

It has been three years since the academics and activists research conference at London South Bank University. That was third conference of its kind following London (December 2000) and Newcastle (2008). This 2015 conference seeks, again, to bring together academics, researchers and activists from across the country to focus on research and chart a way forward which bridges the gap between academia and activism. It follows commitment from a number of UCU congresses to support such a conference in the interests of promoting these areas of study.

The conference will take place at the University of Manchester, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL on Friday 15 May 2015 from 10am - 4pm.

Proposals for presentation of research papers

Research areas include the following:

• histories of difference
• cultural differences
• enabling voice
• differences across the lifespan
• genderqueer(ing)
• constructing and Deconstructing binaries
• identity/ies
• relationship recognitions
• realisation of life aspirations and expectations
• differences in thinking about and sexual practices
• sexual health and sexual practices including impact of prep and pep
• equality legislation, policy, implementation and practice/s
• heteronormativity and heterosexism
• traditional locus of power and struggle
• equality with traditional structures - what place for diversity?
• biodiversity and understanding of sex as a protected characteristic.

Papers should relate to the main theme. There will be a peer review process following submission. The deadline date for submission is 4pm Wednesday 28 January. Papers (of no more than 500 words) and should be sent to Seth Atkin.
