UN Anti-Racism Day 2015

5 March 2015

Stand up to racism annual demonstration Assemble 12 noon at BBC Portland Place, London W1A

In 2014, over 10,000 people marched in central London for UN Anti-Racism Day which commemorates the anniversary of the Sharpeville massacre in apartheid South Africa.  It was part of a series of demonstrations held across Europe and around the world.  Many people from across the country (students, trade unionists, people of all faiths and none, migrants, musicians, teachers, pensioners and parents) stood together to show unity in the face of racism.

UCU supports this event and calls on all members to demonstrate their commitment to a diverse Europe free from racism and hatred and will be making the same commitment by joining forces with others to commemorate the day on Saturday 21 March 2015 to reject racism, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism; to celebrate diversity and to demonstrate our confidence in a future free of scapegoating, racism and hatred and to cherish the idea for a free and democratic society in which all persons live together in harmony.
