UCU learning reps: Introduction day

This one day introductory course will look at your role as a learning rep, your legal rights, current issues, UCU union policies, agreements on learning and skills, and how to extend the UCU organising agenda to build the branch around learning.

Duration: 1 day

Who should attend?

New and existing UCU learning reps have a statutory right to attend role specific training within 6 months of appointment. The course is also open to branch officers. Every branch should have at least one learning rep.

This introductory module will cover the following:

  • your rights as a UCU Learning Rep
  • barriers to learning and development for all in your workplace
  • equality issues around access to learning and development
  • the role of the learning rep in the branch
  • learning and development agreements with the employer
  • where next for the branch development of the learning rep role
