Dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace course

Challenging Sexual Harassment in the workplace: 6,13,20, October 2021, Online, Scotland

This course is aimed at branch reps who may be dealing with individual harassment/sexual harassment cases, negotiating around policies that protect members or wish to challenge harassment, in particular sexual harassment more broadly in the workplace. Please note this course is now online.

Course meeting dates: 6th 13th 20th October 2021

Course meeting times: Weekly course meetings are 2 hours long and held between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. unless otherwise directed by the course tutor. Each course meeting will take place on the dates above. Please expect some activity group work outside of the course meeting dates.


Duration: 3 weeks

Total hours: 12-15  hours 
Location: Online

Delivery method: Online & course meetings via zoom or teams, supported by both self-directed and collaborative working.

This course is aimed at branch reps who may be dealing with individual harassment cases, negotiating around policies that protect members or wish to challenge harassment, in particular sexual harassment more broadly in the workplace.

Please ensure you can attend the entire course prior to submitting your application form. Please further ensure you have secured time off from your employer to attend.

We recommend that you take your facility time on the same day as your course meeting. This will allow you to complete the course activities, and to contact the tutor/attend the course de-brief where offered.

Some colleges may also offer a p.m. debrief between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. this is not mandatory however, we would recommend you take the tutor up on the offer where available.

UCU courses are funded via members' contributions and public funding. When you apply for a course we will assume that are making a commitment to attend the course as advertised, and have secured time off from your employer. Please contact you branch/region if you are having problems securing time off

·       UCU women's sexual harassment survey

·       Harassing and sexually harassing behaviour, impact, and barriers

·       Policies and procedures for dealing with harassment

·       Handling harassment cases

·       Challenging harassment in the workplace

·       Involving members

·       Organising around equality

There is no requirement to have attended any UCU reps training prior to this course however, an understanding of your local branch bargaining machinery will be an advantage. If you are a new rep and would like to attend this course please contact your branch chair or secretary to discuss how your branch negotiates policy with the employer.

Please ignore references to lunch and overnight accommodation on the application form.

This course is hosted on the UCU training portal within a SharePoint platform. You will be given a pass code and instructions (including a short video) along with the general course joining instructions prior to the course starting. Your log in will only last for the duration of the course, so please download any documents you want to keep as soon as possible.
