UCU welcomes national survey's recognition of lecturers' hard work
12 September 2007
UCU today welcomed the positive results of the third National Student Survey (NSS).
The survey of over 177,000 students revealed that over four fifths of students (82%) were happy with the teaching on their course and 81% were satisfied overall – both statistics a 1% increase on the 2006 survey.
UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'The results of this survey are a testament to the incredible work being done by lecturers and academic-related staff in our universities. Despite rising class sizes and an ever-increasing administrative burden, staff continue to deliver an excellent higher education experience for students.
'In order to maintain this level of excellence the government must recognise and reward this fine work. The country needs to maintain its proud reputation and can only do this with proper support and investment.'
