Help those affected by Grenfell Tower fire

UCU's national executive committee met last week and agreed to make a donation to those affected by the shocking and tragic fire at Grenfell Tower. The union encourages members to donate to the British Red Cross London Fire Relief Fund and contact your branch to help with our national solidarity collection day on Wednesday 5 July 2017. 

Teaching excellence framework (TEF) briefing

UCU has published a short briefing on the TEF2 results. The briefing outlines the union's concerns about the TEF and calls for feedback on local developments.

2. Have your say on the state of the further education sector

Time is running out to take part in the National FE Survey 2017 run by the Policy Consortium and Tes magazine. It is open to everyone working in the sector and aims to gauge opinions on a range of issues facing the sector, and those which need to be addressed in the coming months and years to allow it to thrive. The organisers are particularly keen to hear from UCU members, so please take part and encourage your colleagues to do the same. But be quick, the survey closes this weekend (Sunday 2 July). 

3. People's Assembly - demonstrate tomorrow, Saturday 1 July

UCU supports the demonstration organised by the People's Assembly tomorrow. Thousands are expected to join the march in defence of the NHS, education, and decent and safe housing for all and against the government's policy of austerity and privatisation. 4. No to cuts at Leeds Beckett University 

Leeds Beckett University plans to make cuts in the health promotion department including closing the world leading Centre for Men's Health. Please sign the petition calling on management to reconsider. 

5. Stand up for Sen - stop union victimisation 

UCU members at College of North West London continue to campaign for sacked union rep Indro Sen to be reinstated and will take further strike action on enrolment day tomorrow. Find out how you can support Sen and the campaign here

6. Take action against fracking - Lancashire

UCU members and campaigners are holding a family friendly anti-fracking demonstration on Friday 14 July at the Cuadrilla site, Preston New Road, near Blackpool, Lancashire and you are invited to join them for a month of inspiring ideas, demonstrations, fun and local solidarity throughout July
