Where are my black sisters and brothers?

As a member of the Black Members Standing Committee (BMSC), it has become increasingly frustrating not to be sharing the diverse nature of information I accumulate through our meetings.  Building a cohesive and fully functioning network is the basis on which we could shape and create solidarity; we have so much to do, and we cannot do it alone.  This is a call out to our sisters and brothers to come together and work towards a better future for all of us.  What I am trying to do in my own branch has been to approach one of my members to ask them to contact other black members to come together; why not me?  I am a constant to all members, and to stimulate the appeal of becoming involved in UCU, I thought that someone, other than me, might be more of a draw.  This is still a work in progress, and I will continue to persevere. There are a number of events coming up which could provide a focus to engage members such as Black History month, an ideal occasion to exchange ideas on how best your institution can represent Black History; we have the Equality Conference from 23 to 25 November (registration details and further information can be found here

An opportunity to provide members with an insight on what we are trying to achieve is the Love Music Hate Racism event on 1 December which will show that we are trying to appeal to all age ranges we have.
