Initial Teacher Education and Training (Wales)

27 September 2016

The way teachers are trained in Wales will see an increased role for schools and more input from universities to raise standards, Education Secretary Kirsty Williams announced on 20 September.

The revised accreditation includes:

  • an increased role for schools;
  • a clearer role for universities;
  • joint ownership of the initial teacher education (ITE) programme;
  • structured opportunities to link school and university learning;
  • the centrality of research.

The Welsh government have also published a consultation on Initial Teacher Education accreditation with associated documents. If you have any initial comments that you would like to contribute to the UCU Wales response, please forward them to ledwards@ucu.org.uk.
