The government are weaker and more divided now than in living memory.

The potential for a radical and popular Labour government committed to reversing years of austerity is cause for hope and optimism.

There is now a clear alternative to years of markestisation and austerity. With many of the policies for post-16 education contained in the plan for a National Education Service coming from the activism and campaigning of UCU members.

However, until the Conservatives are out of office they will continue to savage public services, and cut pay and conditions of our members in Further and Adult education.

That is why we have to act together now.

The campaign to scrap the pay cap has the support of the Labour front bench and is popular with members and the wider public.

We should throw all our weight into ensuring the pay and HE pension's disputes are successful, coordinating between UCU and other unions to nationalise the campaign and draw public support.

We also need to dig in with hard hitting local action that improves our pay and exposes the pay inequality between those at the top and the rest in our colleges.

The lobbies of parliament, marches and demonstrations, strikes and rallies put FE and Adult Education on the map and helped win more funding. We must win on pay now.

I currently teach and coordinate maths at Tower Hamlets College.

If elected I will:

  • Regularly report back to members through a newsletter.

  • Campaign to secure more FE & Adult funding, restore our pay and conditions, close the gender pay gap and end casualisation.

  • Support stand up to racism, oppose Islamophobia and Prevent.

  • Defend EU members, defend asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.

  • Defend victimised reps.

  • Ensure UCU policy is implemented.
