Keeping strong on the picket lines

15 March 2018

UCU general secretary Sally Hunt reports that picket line action is remaining strong as the strike action ends its thirteenth day.

She writes to members:

'Dear colleague

It has been another strong day out on the picket lines, and both students and the wider public around the UK have continued to support us.

Billy Bragg joins Exeter UCU on the Streatham Campus picket tomorrow, and Jeremy Corbyn has tweeted his support for security in retirement and fresh negotiations.

UCU members have launched a petition calling the UK Government to guarantee the USS pension scheme. You can support this petition by following this link - and sharing it with friends and colleagues.

We would also appreciate support for Durham UCU who, as I mentioned in yesterday's message, are supporting this petition calling the Home Office to stop the unfair deportation of Dr. Ernesto Schwartz-Marin and Dr. Arely Cruz-Santiago.

Your actions continue to make a real difference - if you can, attend the picket line tomorrow and maintain the pressure on employers.

Thank you for your sustained support

Sally Hunt
UCU general secretary'
