Taking action in higher education

HE employers' offer - UCU consultation meetings

Branches/LAs were informed on 3 September that the higher education committee (HEC) had discussed the evolving political and industrial environment and how this could impact on our ongoing dispute with UCEA, the national employers' association.

At its meeting, HEC:

  • Evaluated the work undertaken to update membership lists required prior to any ballot;
  • Considered the outcome of the snapshot survey of members undertaken to test their reaction to the union's decision to move to ballot;
  • Discussed the tactical considerations on when best to ballot for industrial action.
  • Resolved to carry out a series of briefings to consult further with branches/LAs and to maximise support for the union's position in a rapidly evolving political and industrial environment.

For further information, please see UCUHE69 (.pdf) (dated 6 September) and UCUHE71 (.pdf) (dated 22 September).

In line with the HEC decision, meetings for branch/LAs have been arranged for the following locations and dates:

Birmingham: 14 October (14.00 to 16.30)

Manchester: 15 October (14.00 to 16.30)

Glasgow: 21 October (14.00 to 16.30)

London: 22 October (14.00 to 16.30)

It is suggested that branches/LAs attend meetings (2 officers per branch) at the location indicated in the appendix attached to UCUHE71.
