UCU has long campaigned for open, transparent and democratic governance at all levels within higher education institutions.

• Universities' governing bodies need more educationalists

  UCU has backed calls for staff and academics to have a much greater say in how universities are governed. Responding to a March 2011 report by the Higher Education Policy Institute UCU said those tasked with taking key decisions had to have a proper understanding of a university's role in society and its local community.
