University and College Union annual congress 2012

11 May 2012

Combating plans for privatisation, reforming the union, reducing workloads and defending pensions are just some of the topics to be debated by lecturers and academic-related staff from both further and higher education at this year's annual UCU Congress.

From Friday 8 to Sunday 10 June, around 500 delegates will gather at the Manchester Central Convention Complex for the event. More details on the motions up for discussion and the timetable of the event can be found at: www.ucu.org.uk/congress. More information on the venue can be found at: www.manchestercentral.co.uk.

Speakers at the event will include the union's general secretary, Sally Hunt, on Saturday and Dr Miguel Angel Beltrán, who will also speak on the Saturday. Dr Beltrán is a Colombian academic jailed for criticising the Colombian government. UCU led the campaign for his release.

The union will be providing regular updates from the event on its website at www.ucu.org.uk/congress and via Twitter: www.twitter.com/ucu.
