Workload rep training 2 - Workload campaign in action, inspections and investigations: 13, March, 2026, Online, UK Wide course, Half day

This short course is open to UCU activists and reps who have completed Workload 1 session, and want to build upon their knowledge of workload as a health and safety hazard in the workplace. The UCU workload campaign gives us the tools to tackle increasing workloads and working hours. The failure of employers to protect staff from excessive workloads and stress is damaging our health, our students' education, and our ability to organise to defend ourselves and our sector In this course you will work through practical examples and explore ideas around how to use the safety rep functions to identify and reduce excessive workloads. Please note: You must have attended Workload Reps 1 prior to applying for this course.

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Course time commitment: 4 hours plus 1 hour of pre-course work

Application deadline: Applications for this course will close on 11th March 2026 this is to ensure all course logistics can be covered in good time. Applications after this date will not be accepted.

The course will cover:

  • workload campaign in action 
  • using your statutory functions
  • preparing for inspections and investigations 
  • undertaking workload inspections and investigations  
  • review local action plans 
  • bargaining for improvements.

Who should attend

You must have attended the UCU Workload Reps 1 course prior to applying for this course.

This short course is open to UCU H&S reps, branch officers, reps and activists who have completed Workload 1 session, and want to tackle the causes of workload stress in the workplace . It is envisaged that post course you will be actively involved in any branch workload campaign.

This is an important campaign 'It's your time' workload campaign which involves every member and worker in your institution. Getting involved with this training and the campaign will ensure that you can make a real difference to peoples day to day lives in the workplace.
