University and College Union (UCU) Scotland comment on Scottish budget

Commenting on the 2026 Scottish Budget announcement,  Mary Senior, Scotland official for UCU, said: "Today's budget will bring little comfort to the thousands of staff in Scotland's universities whose jobs are currently under threat, or to the students who are seeing courses disappearing and their lecturers leaving.  Jobs are being lost and educational provision is being cut right now in universities across Scotland.  With more than half of Scottish universities making staff redundant and reducing educational provision, this budget won't counter the jobs exodus or end the crisis in Scottish higher education any time soon."
