Taking action in higher education

Campaign update: 6 May 2016

Higher education (HE): members vote for action on pay

UCU members in HE have voted in favour of taking industrial action to address the erosion of pay across the sector. 65.4% of members who voted backed strike action and 77.3% voted for action short of strike. The turnout was 35.5%. The union's higher education committee meet today to decide next steps, and an announcement will be made on Monday.

Further education (FE) pay campaign

The union is holding a day of action on Wednesday 11 May to promote this year's pay claim for FE staff in England,  which calls for £1 extra per hour for all staff, fair pay for women, improvements on job security and the Living Wage. Please help us make the case for fair pay in FE by joining in the photo opportunities to be launched on social media this week. TES covered the story here.
