UCU supports new Amnesty appeal on behalf of imprisoned Bahraini teacher trade unionist

21 May 2013 | last updated: 29 October 2015

UCU members are encouraged to sign a new Amnesty appeal calling for the release of Madhi Abu Dheeb, the leader of the Bahraini Teachers' Association.

Over the last few years we have been campaigning on behalf of Bahraini teachers. Earlier this year  we wrote again to the UK embassy [29kb] in Bahrain regarding Mahdi's ongoing detention and the recent dismissal of his BTA colleague, Jalila al-Salman, from her teaching post. In April, Jalila was a guest speaker at the NUT and NASUWT conferences and recorded the following interview about the plight of Bahraini teachers.
