Justice for Grenfell

Following the shocking and tragic fire at Grenfell Tower, West London this week you are invited to donate to the Just Giving page which has already raised over £1 million for families affected. Campaigners are holding a Justice for Grenfell protest this evening 6pm, 16 June, at the Department of Communities and Local Government, Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DF. 

Manchester Metropolitan University strike and rally

UCU members at Manchester Metropolitan University will take strike action next week on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 June over proposed job cuts and the closure of the Crewe campus. A rally at The Deaf Institute Café, Bar & Music Hall, 135 Grosvenor Street, Manchester, M1 7HE on Tuesday 20 June, 12 noon, will be addressed by UCU general secretary Sally Hunt and shadow education secretary Angela Rayner MP. Sign the petition to show your support

2. Darlington College: no Darlo pay cuts! 

Staff at Darlington College held a lunchtime protest this week over plans to cut lecturers' salaries by up to 10%. UCU are campaigning against a rise in working hours on top of a five year pay freeze and a recent union meeting passed a motion of no confidence in senior management and the principal (who are not affected by the pay cut). UCU members at University of Leeds stepped up their campaign this week against changes to university statutes that could make it easier to sack staff.
