Further education sector unites to call for funding

UCU has joined other leading voices in further education to demand more funding for the sector ahead of the autumn budget. In a joint letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, ten bodies representing further education (FE) staff, students and providers have called for extra funding to ensure a "stable and well-resourced further education sector" which can meet different needs and ambitions. College and university support for asylum seekers and refugees

UCU is producing a publication to show examples of how the post-16 education sector is supporting refugees and asylum seekers through widening participation and fair access initiatives. Please contact Angela if you would like to contribute examples from your institution.

Academic freedom in Turkey

UCU has published a new campaign briefing on academic freedom violations in Turkey.  It outlines UCU's response and how branches and members can support campaigning activities.   

UCU negotiates recognition for staff at ONCAMPUS Coventry

UCU this week concluded negotiations around a voluntary recognition agreement with ONCAMPUS, which is owned by Cambridge Education Group, granting the union collective bargaining rights for academic staff at their centre in Coventry. This is the latest in a series of agreements that show that UCU can and will extend its bargaining reach into new providers in both HE and FE. 

Justice now: make it right for Palestine, 4 November 

There will be a march and rally in central London tomorrow to mark the centenary of the Balfour Declaration, calling for justice and equal rights for Palestinians. Saturday 4 November, 12 noon, Grosvenor Square, London, W1K 6LF.  

Free political prisoners in Morocco

A new international solidarity appeal has been launched to help free the Hirak political prisoners in Morocco. You can support the campaign by signing a new change.org petition.
