USS dispute: build the biggest strike action we have ever seen

With the union now on the brink of sustained strike action over USS pensions, UCU negotiators met the employers again earlier this week. Regrettably they show no sign of moving away from their hard-line position of wanting to remove the right to a guaranteed pension. So preparations for the action are now well underway with huge turnouts at meetings, large numbers of new members joining, and growing support from students (with hundreds of emails sent to vice-chancellors using our online tool). We have taken out adverts in the national and trade press to make our case.

Even as the clock counts down to the first day of strike action on 22 February, the union continues to do everything we can to get the employers negotiating again. However in the absence of any movement in their position we are determined to make this the biggest strike action the sector has ever seen.

We have agreed national strike pay which you can find out more about here. We have FAQs which answer commonly asked questions about the strikes here - watch out for a major update on Monday.
