International staff and the right to strike

Our campaign to guarantee international staff the right to strike continues to put pressure on the government and last week the issue was raised in parliament with a question which you can read here. Shreya Atrey, a young lecturer on a Tier 2 visa has written a powerful article in this week's Times Higher Education about how Home Office regulations and the threat of deportation affected international staff during the USS dispute.

FE fights back

Our FE fights back campaign is stepping up the pressure on college employers to take urgent action to address the pay crisis in further education. With those of you working in further education facing a 25% real terms pay cut (13% less per hour than school teachers), more and more members are simply saying 'enough is enough'.

This week several London colleges took strike action for a better deal and you are invited to send messages of support to those on strike today:

Free Haitham Mohamedain: stop the repression in Egypt

Last week Egyptian security forces stormed the house of labour lawyer Haitham Mohamedain and took him away to an unknown destination. Haitham is a well-known defender of workers' rights and has worked tirelessly to support independent trade unionists facing state persecution. Please sign the petition calling for his release and condemning abuse and torture of detainees

NHS at 70: celebrate and demonstrate, 30 June

Campaigners and health unions including British Medical Association, Royal College of Nursing, Royal College of Midwives, People's Assembly and others are planning a celebration and demonstration in defence of the NHS and free healthcare, for all, forever.
