UCU Green New Deal: Build back better, starting 20 July 2020, Online
This exciting new course designed for both UCU Green reps and those Reps in the branch with an interest in bargaining around the green agenda. The course will look at your institution's policies around environmental concerns and investigate levers for change around bargaining,organising and campaigning.
This course has been designed around UCU's Green New Deal guidance. It will help equip reps and branch negotiators to construct a bargaining claim, examine the issues involved, involve members and campaign effectively to support a claim. The course is currently online, but may also be offered in classroom or blended format in future.
Course Format: This course is taught by a TUC tutor over a four week period through a combination of virtual course meetings, self-directed and virtual group work. Some course content will need to be sent to the course tutor for assessment and comment
Course meeting dates/time: Each course meeting will take place at 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon unless otherwise advised by the course tutor, and take place via Microsoft teams. The course meeting dates are 20th, 27th July and 3rd August 2020
Course hours: The course will be approx. 12 hours in total (including course meetings and self-directed work/study)

This is an important course in terms of your branch developing the skills and knowledge you need to negotiate around the green agenda, therefore you should be seeking facility time to complete the course.
The course will look at:
- why climate justice is a trade union issue
- how institution's can effect change
- how branches can build alliances with local groups
- how to construct a bargaining claim around the green new deal
- how to effectively implement the Green New Deal guidance
- how to organise and campaign around a green claim
