20 September 2012 | last updated: 7 March 2019

FUTA are striking for increased state funding for education and for genuine institutional autonomy for universities.

The Federation of Teachers' Unions (FUTA), a representative organisation of the 43 university teachers unions of Sri Lanka, have been on strike for nearly three months. FUTA are calling for increased state funding for education and for genuine institutional autonomy for universities.

UCU has written to the Sri Lankan authorities calling for them to negotiate properly with FUTA over these demands.
