This course is aimed at branch reps who may be dealing with individual harassment/sexual harassment cases, negotiating around policies that protect members or wish to challenge harassment, in particular sexual harassment more broadly in the workplace.

Please ensure you can attend the entire course prior to submitting your application  form. Please further ensure you have secured time off from your employer to attend.
Course meeting times: 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Course time commitment:6 - 10  hours approx. including course meetings, pre & post course work
Location:Online - you will be given a UCU sharepoint login nearer to the course. Please be aware this must be accessed via an incognito or private browsing window. Full instructions will be given.

Please note: Applications for this course will close at noon on Friday 27th February 2024. This is to ensure all course logistics can be completed in good time. Applications beyond that point risk not being accepted.

Course content:

    The course will cover the following;

    • legislation covering harassment
    • UCU women's sexual harassment survey
    • harassing and sexually harassing behaviour, impact, and barriers
    • policies and procedures for dealing with harassment
    • handling harassment cases
    • challenging harassment in the workplace
    • involving members
    • organising around equality.

    There is no requirement to have attended any UCU reps training prior to this course, however, an understanding of your local branch bargaining machinery will be an advantage. If you are a new rep and would like to attend this course please contact your branch chair or secretary to discuss how your branch negotiates policy with the employer.

    UCU courses are funded via members' contributions and public funding.

    Information Facility time

    Time off for training is a right and one which should be exercised as part of normal industrial relations. For more info please see  Facilities and time off for UCU reps.

    When you apply for a course we will assume that are making a commitment to attend the course as advertised, and have secured time off from your employer. Please contact your branch/region if you are having problems securing time off.


    Important Before you complete this form, please be aware: You may be asked to register with the delivering college in which your trade union tutor is employed. Where colleges are drawing down funding for delivery you will be ask for your passport or equivalent identification details to register. This is a demand of the college who are following government requirements in order to satisfy public funding criteria. This is not a requirement UCU want to see and we are lobbying for change. However, as it stands, if you do not register with the college, your place will not be fundable.
