Vindicated: USS reports a £1.8bn SURPLUS
19 August 2022
You will have no doubt seen the news yesterday, reported by Josephine Cumbo from the Financial Times, that the £14.5bn deficit that was used as a justification to cut 35% off our future guaranteed retirement income is now a £1.8bn surplus. We have said time and again that USS is an extremely strong pension scheme with excellent long-term prospects. News that the scheme is in significant surplus is just the latest vindication of our position.
We have been consistently lied to and gaslighted by people stealing our wages. We have been proven right but we need to make this right and to do that we need to deliver the biggest YES vote in the union's history. Please do the following:
- join our live Q&A on Thursday 25 August at 19:30 on our YouTube channel, Facebook, and Twitter accounts (the event will be recorded)
- sign up to be a UCU Rising campaign ambassador
- share across social media your demand for USS to return our stolen wages.
In solidarity
