UCU comment on the Scottish Government's draft budget and impact on universities

Commenting on today's Scottish draft budget announcement, Mary Senior, UCU Scotland official, said: 'Today's Scottish budget announcement with a below inflation increase for university funding will be a worry for students, parents, and hardworking staff in Scotland's universities. With inflation at unprecedented levels the further real terms cuts to university funding, on the back of year-on-year reductions, come when staff are exhausted over unsafe workloads, casual contracts, unfair pay and pension cuts - and on the back of the biggest strikes the university sector has seen.   

'The Scottish government must do better for universities if it is serious about investing in young people, in education and in Scotland's future.'
