UCU's New Deal for FE campaign update

7 May 2025

I'm writing to update you on the latest developments in our New Deal for FE campaign.

We are continuing to campaign hard on three key priorities:

  • pay parity with school teachers
  • national workload agreements
  • functioning national bargaining.

You deserve fair treatment, respect, and proper recognition for your work. We're keeping up the pressure on college leaders, the Association of Colleges, and the UK government to deliver meaningful change.

At the end of May, UCU Congress will take place, and FE delegates will make crucial decisions about the next steps in our campaign at the FE sector conference. You can read the FE motions (from page 44) here: UCU Congress Motions.

Some motions propose a strike ballot in the autumn. If these motions are passed, you will receive a postal ballot paper and clear information on why your vote is vital. Before any strike ballot, an e-ballot consultation will be held to assess member support. This consultation will take place in the coming weeks, and you will receive further communications about it.

To ensure you can take part in the e-consultation and any potential ballot, please take a moment to check and update your contact details by logging in to MyUCU.

Finally, I hope to see many of you at the upcoming UCU national rally: Protect Education Now on Saturday 10 May. It's a great opportunity to come together and show our collective strength.

Thank you for your continued support.

In solidarity

Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
