Election address
I am standing in the NEC elections for London and the East (HE) as a UK elected member and as a Representative of Women in HE. I've been a proud UCU member since 2006. Over nearly three decades at LSE, I've fought for fairness, respect, and inclusivity—and I'm ready to take that fight to the NEC.
As Chair of LSE UCU (2021-2023), I led our branch to historic success—breaking the 50% threshold for strike action for the first time. Right now, I'm making history again as LSE's first-ever Professional Services Officer, representing members during a critical period of institutional change. LSE is in the midst of a sweeping Operations Excellence programme—an institution-wide overhaul of processes, structures, and roles. Over 5,000 procedures are under the microscope, and jobs are on the line. Locally and nationally, this is no time for passive leadership. Members need a bold, experienced advocate who will fight to protect their interests—and that's exactly what I bring.
I'm standing because UCU must champion inclusivity, diversity, and respect for all—academic and professional services alike. My priorities:
- Defend members during change: Restructuring and workload pressures threaten wellbeing. I know the power of the workload campaign—our strongest legal tool—and will fight for fair, sustainable conditions.
- Champion ARPS staff: Professional services colleagues are the backbone of higher education, yet career progression remains elusive. I will push nationally for clear career pathways, fair pay, and recognition.
- Promote equality and respect: With a strong and winning casework record and experience tackling bullying and harassment, I work on the ground and at the negotiating table to embed diversity and fairness.
- Strengthen communication and solidarity: I'll ensure transparency, amplify members' voices, and grow our union through initiatives like the Build to Win campaign. LSE is already piloting a workload and wellbeing survey.
I bring proven leadership, deep experience, and unwavering commitment. A strong woman, a mother of three, and a passionate advocate for fairness - I will work hard for all UCU members and push for our union to deliver for everyone.
