Election address
I believe deeply in fairness, solidarity, and collective strength.
My vision for the NEC is rooted in increasing membership density and building the union. I will work to grow confidence by ensuring transparency in decisionmaking, and a clear focus on tangible outcomes. Being a woman of colour, I also want to see more diversity in the NEC; in the fight towards fairness, equity, and equality.
Over ten years in Further Education has shown me that effective communication is the key to building trust. Whether in the classroom, union meetings, or negotiations, I have always sought to embody kindness, empathy, and patience; qualities that I consider essential for leadership within UCU.
My record demonstrates a consistent commitment to improving the workplace. I have played a central role in securing increased pay, ensuring that members are rewarded fairly for their hard work. I have participated in policy negotiations that directly impact working conditions, always striving to find a fair solution; one with trade union principles at its heart. As a rep at Uxbridge College (HRUC), I have twice been involved in mergers, ensuring the employers were held accountable and that members' collective interests were protected.
Representing members has always been at the heart of everything I do. I have stood alongside members in times of uncertainty, ensuring their concerns are voiced. Through regular attendance and open communication in local and joint trade union meetings with senior management, I have built trust and demonstrated that collaboration can deliver real progress without compromising our principles.
I have served as a university ambassador, building strong links with Higher Education lecturers and working together across sectors. As a trained mental health first aider, I have supported staff at my organisation, offering empathy and guidance during difficult times. As a health and safety representative, I have consistently championed safe, supportive environments and work-life balance.
I am proud to have represented the college for the first time at Congress 2025. It was inspiring to witness the breadth of work undertaken across the union to secure fair working practices. It reinforced my belief that questioning injustice and standing up for what is right are not optional; they are the very essence of trade unionism. I returned with renewed determination to ensure our members' voices continue to shape the future of our sector.
If elected, I will continue to represent our members with integrity, courage, and determination —ensuring that our union remains a powerful force for justice, fairness, and progress. I am supporting Suzi Toole (FE) and Mark Pendleton (HE) in the Vice President elections, alongside a slate of candidates which can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/NECelections2026.
