UCU NEC elections: use your vote
11 February 2026
By now, you should have received a hard copy ballot pack for UCU's national executive committee (NEC) and officer elections.
It is a large mailing (one we are currently still obliged to do by post)--but it is a really vital one.
Important decisions that implement the policy of the union's Congress and sector conferences are taken by the NEC and its sectoral sub-committees--the higher education committee (HEC) and further education committee (FEC). This includes the nature and timing of industrial action in national and multi-institution disputes.
The union's budget, its campaigning priorities, and matters relating to our structure and rules, are all discussed by the NEC.
I urge all members to read the candidates' election addresses, and decide who you want to elect to be your voice in this decision-making forum.
The NEC's structure is complex. You will have received a single ballot containing a number of different contests. You are entitled to vote in all the contests on the ballot paper you receive. For some seats--like officers and equality group seats--this includes voting for members not in your own sector.
More information about these elections, including a short video about NEC's role, and a form to request a replacement ballot paper if you have not received one, can be found here on the UCU website.
NEC elections are a fundamental part of the union's democracy, so please use your vote.
Thank you for everything you do for our union.
With best wishes
Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
