Further webinars on conditional indexation

UCU is investigating whether conditional indexation could improve scheme member outcomes in the USS pension scheme. Currently CPI inflation increases are guaranteed within limits but conditional indexation would remove the guarantee and make inflationary increases conditional on the performance of the scheme. This would mean a significant change to scheme members and so SWG held two webinars to engage members and reps and improve understanding on this issue.

An introduction to conditional indexation 

The first webinar was an Introduction to conditional indexation to refresh the memory of those who had attended previous webinars, and to help those attending their first webinar on CI get a better understanding of what CI is and how it may impact on members.

Technical discussion on the Second Report  

The second webinar was a more detailed, technical discussion on the information contained in the USS Second Report on CI which can be found here.  

The SWG would like to thank all those who attended the webinars, asked questions and provided comments. These will be considered by the SWG going forward and will input into the SWG report and recommendations to be presented to UCU HE sector conference in May 2026.
