Together march in London, Saturday 28 March

30 March 2026

On Saturday [28 March 2026], our union stood together in the biggest demonstration against the far right in British history.

Half a million people marched through central London with the Together Alliance. Five hundred organisations, representing over 15 million people across the United Kingdom--trade unions, students, refugees and migrants, disabled people, LGBTQ+ alongside people of all faiths and none.

A day of love, hope and unity.

You can see pictures from the day here.

I want to say a big thank you to all the UCU members and branches who joined our bloc on the march--what a credit you are to our union, your students and institutions.

However wonderful the march was, we have a bigger job to do now--in our towns and cities and in our workplaces.

The far right will not be beaten by a show of unity on one day.

They will come back, with their billionaire donors, to spread division and hatred in our communities.

I want you to join with me to help make sure that cannot happen.

There are three simple things that would make all the difference.

  1. Sign up to the Together Alliance
  2. Make a donation to help with future events.
  3. Visit the TUC website for loads of resources on how we can tackle the far right, including events, training and resources on issues like how to handle difficult conversations at work.

And, crucially, encourage your colleagues to join a union, the home of workplace unity and solidarity.

Saturday's huge demonstration showed the world what a united Britain looks like.

Let's do everything we can to make that last.

In solidarity

Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
