UCU questions 'style over substance' in Dundee jobs threat
24 January 2007
UCU responded today to Dundee University's announcement that jobs are under threat.
UCU joint general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'The university clearly needs to start from the point of avoiding the redundancies altogether. The news of potential redundancies is particularly disturbing when one considers the first minister gave an absolute commitment to real terms increases in funding for further and higher education early this week.
'Dundee University is currently embarking on renewing the campus with new buildings springing up. This raises serious questions about where the university's priorities lie. Investment in aesthetics, rather than staff, suggests that style carries greater importance than substance.'
