Protesters to picket RNIB HQ over Redhill College closure

A picket will assemble from 12 midday until 3 pm at the RNIB headquarters, 105 Judd Street, Kings Cross.

Tutors from the college - members of UCU - plus staff members of UNISON and the Social Care Association have organised the protest which will include students and parents of students.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: 'We have no confidence in the management of the Royal National Institute for the Blind. A hasty decision has been taken to close this unique facility at Redhill which enables students to gain skills, confidence and dignity. We believe that with commitment, the necessary resources and partnerships could be found to enable the college to continue its excellent work. We demand that the RNIB reviews its decision.'

Roger Kline, head of equality and employment rights at UCU said: 'RNIB has declined to meet us at a national level to consider alternatives and campaign to keep this facility open. It is no wonder that staff, students and concerned parents have taken the protest to the charity's doorstep. There are still serious questions about the way this has been conducted and about the fate of students and staff. This is not the RNIB's finest hour.'
