Students need more than raw statistics, says UCU

Commenting on the launch of new website - - today, UCU said that arming students with the tools required to make an informed choice when it comes to university was to be welcomed. However, the union said that stripping everything down to league tables and statistics would not necessarily provide students with everything they did needed to know.
UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'Of course students should receive information about courses and universities so they can make an informed decision before applying to university. However, an obsession with creating league tables and stripping everything down to statistics is not necessarily the best way to recognise the merits or suitability of different degree courses or institutions.'
