Pension strike talks end with no resolution as employers say no more talks until Wednesday

5 March 2018

Talks at Acas about how to resolve the university pensions dispute concluded with the universities' representatives saying they would not be able to meet again until Wednesday afternoon.

Last Tuesday UCU tabled proposals aimed at resolving the dispute. UCU said it had cleared its diary and come prepared for detailed negotiations on a document Universities UK (UUK) had had for a week.

UCU general secretary Sally Hunt said: 'We came to Acas prepared to resolve this dispute. We know that students and staff want this sorted and will be disappointed that UUK have said they will not meet again until Wednesday afternoon. We have cleared our diary, but we cannot negotiate with a row of empty chairs. Without agreement strike action continues.'
