NEC Elections - Geographical Constituencies

23 October 2024

Each year there are elections for roughly half of the geographically-elected members of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

The NEC election constituencies are not the same as UCU's regional committee areas. The relationship between the regional committees and the NEC constituencies is follows:

Constituencies within England

NEC election constituency

Regional Committees

Midlands

East Midlands, West Midlands (excluding 6 institutions that sit in the South constituency, see below)

London and East

London (excluding Royal Holloway), Eastern & Home Counties (excluding 5 institutions that sit in the South constituency, see below)

South

South, South East, South West, plus (from Eastern & Home Counties) Buckinghamshire New University, Open University, Buckinghamshire College Group, Milton Keynes College; (from London) Royal Holloway; (from West Midlands) Royal Agricultural University, University of Gloucester, Cirencester College, South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, Gloucestershire College, Hartpury College

North East

Northern, Yorkshire & Humberside

North West

North West

The constituencies defined by national boundaries are:

  • Wales
  • Scotland
  • Northern Ireland

The regional committee of each branch can be found by searching in the contacts directory. The first two letters of the branch code indicate the NEC constituency in which it sits (eg MD = Midlands, SO = South).

Valid supporting signatures or statements for geographically-elected seats must be from members of branches in the relevant sector and geographical constituency.

Members with queries about the election process should contact demservices@ucu.org.uk.
