Working your proper hours at North Lindsey College
26 February 2010
Dozens of members and non-members at North Lindsey College, Scunthorpe, dropped in to pick up a Timeout chocolate bar and a UCU mug and other promotional materials as part of a campaign to draw attention to the long hours culture familiar to many in further education.
Workload is a key issue at North Lindsey College
The UCU branch organised the lunchtime drop to coincide with the TUC's 'Work Your Proper Hours Day' on 26 February. The branch are also running an online workload survey of UCU members which was rolled out this week along side the promotional newsletters to advertise 'work your proper hours day'.
Branch secretary Rich Stephens said: 'It really has been a worthwhile exercise today. It has provided the opportunity to meet members, to discuss issues and many have taken UCU information - not to mention chocolate bars back to their staff rooms with a promise to promote and recruit new members.
'We hope to use the results of the survey to campaign against workload excess and overload and the stress and ill health associated with it.'
