Initial Teacher Training and Education

In March, Kirsty Williams, Cabinet Secretary for Education, announced changes for initial teacher education in Wales. All programmes of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) in Wales which commence from September 2019 must first be accredited by the Education Workforce Council (EWC), through its ITE Accreditation Board. The process for partnerships to prepare and submit programmes to the EWC formally opened in March 2017.

EWC Accreditation Board to assess programmes | By 30 June 2018 |
EWC to inform partnerships of decision and provide an initial indication of funded numbers for a programme for 2019-20 | By 30 June 2018 |
Partnership to commence marketing of their programme to prospective student teachers | From 1 July 2018 |
EWC to confirm funded numbers for a programme for 2019-20 | By 1 September 2018 |
Partnership to commence delivery of new programme | From 1 September 2019 |
