Academic-related role profiles

Since the introduction of the framework agreement in 2004 many institutions have developed generic role profiles for academic-related staff using either the Hay or HERA schemes as the underpinning job evaluation scheme.

Model profiles

Local role profiles

The profiles provided below have been agreed by local UCU branches and have been used in the evaluation of academic-related staff. Note these were introduced before UCU's model profiles above.

Birmingham

Grades 6-9 read across to academic grades 1-4.

Bristol

Levels A–E read across to the five academic grades.

Cardiff

The generic benchmark role profiles for grades 5-8 of the managerial, professional and specialist staff job family read across to the national academic role profiles Ac1–Ac4.

Dundee

The five academic-related profiles, level 1-5 read across to the five academic grades and national academic role profiles at Ac1–Ac5.

Edinburgh

The profiles for academic-related staff are the administrative profiles, grades 6-10 which read across to the five academic role profiles at grades 6–10.

Glasgow

The profiles for academic related staff are the management, professional and administrative profiles at grades 6-9 which read across to the research and teaching profiles for academic staff at grades 6-9.

Keele

The profiles for academic-related staff are the managerial and specialist grades 7–10.

Leicester

The role profiles for academic-related staff are from the management and administration job family at grades 6-10. These read across to grades 6-10 for academic staff.

Liverpool

Profiles have been developed at grades 6-9 for three academic-related job families: library, computing and management and administration. These read across to grades 6-9 (Ac 1- Ac 4) of the academic career path and the national academic role profiles.

Loughborough

The profiles are levels 6-9 of the management and specialist job family which read across to levels 6-9 of the academic job family

Nottingham

The profiles are levels 4-7 of the administrative, professional and managerial job family which reads across to levels 4-7 of the teaching and research job family.

Open University

50 role profiles have been developed matched to grades 7-9 (academic grades 2-4) based on the HERA questionnaire and factor outlines.

Oxford

Oxford has developed generic grades descriptors at grades 6-10 for academic and academic-related staff.

Queen's Belfast

Administrative and professional services at levels 6-9 read across to the academic grades 6-9.

Sheffield

Generic grade profiles have been developed covering all staff on a grade including academic and academic related staff. The appropriate profiles for UCU members are grades 6-9.

Strathclyde

Role profiles have been developed for administrative and professional services at grades 6-10 which read across to the five academic grades.

Surrey

Role profiles for academic-related staff are found in the professional services job family at grades 3-7. These read across to the research and teaching job family profiles at grades 3-7.

Warwick

There are a set of generic grade descriptors at grades 6-9 which read across to the academic career pathway.
