1. HE pay and equality and USS disputes: GTVO

We are now in the 5th week of the ballot period.  Officials from the UCU Wales have been out campaigning with branches to Get The Vote Out and will be visiting more branches in the next couple of week. Please get in touch if you would like someone to come and help out. Email Phil Markham. Please also get in touch to tell us about what and how you are doing with your get the vote out (GTVO) campaign.

We need to achieve over a 50% turnout in the ballot. Please stand up for education and a fair deal for HE staff by voting YES for action and YES to action short of a strike and show the employers we are prepared to stand up and be counted.

2. FE Pay & Workload dispute

• Pay: The principals are meeting on 21 and 22 October and we have been informed that they will respond to our claim in writing on the 23 October. Arrangements are being made for JTUs to meet early in November to consider the response from principals.

• Workload dispute: UCU are still in dispute over the UCU claim to reduce workload requirements for staff in the national workload agreement. A first draft of a proposed joint letter from CC and JTUs has been sent to CC for consideration by the principal's group. We asked that we get a quick turnaround but they have decided that it should be tabled at the meeting on 21 - 22 October, some three weeks hence. We are concerned that by the time the letter gets to the Minister decisions will already have been made by cabinet on how to spend the additional funding Wales will receive, approx. £23m as a consequence of the £400m announced by Boris Johnson for FE in England. CC will also be considering the proposals from the drafting group which looks at standardising the 20 minutes preparation and marking time in the full time contract, currently it's only referenced in the part time contract.

3. Researcher development Concordat launch - Wales

A launch event for the new researcher development Concordat is being held in Cardiff Marriott Hotel, Mill Lane, Cardiff on Wednesday 16 October 10am - 4pm. The event will look at how the new Concordat will reinforce and further challenge the sector to support researcher careers. It will also give delegates the opportunity to identify shared challenges and create a work programme to feed into the UK-wide Concordat activities. Please click on the following link to book a place: here.

2. Anghydfod ynghylch Tâl a Llwyth Gwaith Addysg Bellach

1. Tâl: Bydd y penaethiaid yn cyfarfod ar 21 a 22 Hydref ac rydym wedi cael gwybod y byddant yn ymateb i'n hawliad yn ysgrifenedig ar 23 Hydref. Mae trefniadau ar waith i'r Cyd-Undebau Llafur gyfarfod yn gynnar ym mis Tachwedd er mwyn ystyried ymateb y penaethiaid.

2. Anghydfod ynghylch Llwyth Gwaith:  Mae UCU yn parhau mewn anghydfod dros hawliad UCU i leihau llwyth gwaith staff yn y Cytundeb Llwyth Gwaith Cenedlaethol. Mae drafft cyntaf o lythyr arfaethedig ar y cyd gan Colegau Cymru a'r Cyd-Undebau Llafur wedi cael ei anfon at Colegau Cymru i'w ystyried gan grŵp y pennaeth. Gwnaethom ofyn am ymateb cyflym, ond maent wedi penderfynu y dylid ei ystyried mewn cyfarfod ar 21/22 Hydref, rhyw dair wythnos yn ddiweddarach. Rydym yn poeni erbyn i'r llythyr gyrraedd y Gweinidog, y bydd penderfyniadau wedi cael eu gwneud yn barod gan y cabinet ynghylch sut i wario'r arian ychwanegol y bydd Cymru yn ei gael, sef tua £23m, o ganlyniad i'r £400m a gyhoeddwyd gan Boris Johnson ar gyfer Addysg Bellach yn Lloegr. Bydd Colegau Cymru hefyd yn ystyried cynigion gan y grŵp drafftio sy'n edrych ar safoni'r ddarpariaeth o 20 munud o amser paratoi a marcio yn y contract llawn amser; dim ond cael ei chrybwyll a wna yn y contract rhan amser ar hyn o bryd.

3. Lansio Concordat i Gefnogi Datblygu Gyrfa Ymchwilwyr - Cymru

Cynhelir achlysur lansio ar gyfer y Concordat newydd i Gefnogi Datblygu Gyrfa Ymchwilwyr yng Ngwesty'r Marriott, Mill Lane, Caerdydd ddydd Mawrth 16 Hydref rhwng 10am a 4pm. Bydd y digwyddiad yn dangos sut bydd y Concordat newydd yn atgyfnerthu gyrfaoedd ymchwilwyr ac yn herio'r sector ymhellach i gefnogi hynny.
