Prison education enquiry launched

7 December 2020

The House of Commons education select committee has launched an inquiry into prison education.

The inquiry will examine issues such as the purpose of education in prisons, to what degree adults and younger learners in custody can access suitable education, how effective current arrangements are in ensuring prisoners continue in training and employment on release and how this reduces reoffending.

More information is available here and the deadline for responses is 8 January 2021.

Important UCU will be responding formally to the inquiry and believe that response should be shaped by our prison education members as the experts working on the front line. Please can you therefore take the time to complete this short online survey.

We will also be holding three separate online focus groups to explore the following areas.
