Prison education annual meeting 2019
UCU's annual prison education meeting took place on 8 March, and was well attended by reps and health and safety reps from all four of the prison education providers.
Ian Bickers, Deputy Director for Education from HMPPS, spoke and answered attendees questions.
Reps were briefed on the outcomes of the Prison Education Framework (PEF) bidding process and the likely next steps as some staff are transferred to new providers on 1 April. They were encouraged to engage as much as possible with the consultation processes, and to ask for pertinent information to support and inform the staff. One presentation provided advice to reps about legal obligations, and another updated reps on the work UCU has been doing to tackle the issues of Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS) access; tackling health and safety issues; and access to natural justice.
